Ford Pickup Repair Kit? I find the item's title amusing, but I have no idea what its origins are. Any chance for this Aussie to get some background?

No problem... A lot of people in the US are very..biased, toward one car maker or another. For years the top makers, in my opinion, were Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, and then the imports trailing in. Those who fixed their own vehicles had even more deep set opinions on what auto maker was best mostly through their own experiences. I've owned and worked on chevys, fords, dodges..even a few VolksWagons, and the most frustrating vehicles have been Fords. I've had Chevies where three of eight spark plug wires were disconnected (from four wheeling in rough terrain) and the motor still ran with just a bit of a odd sound..and had universal joints break and able to replace them withing minutes while sitting on the side of the road. Now, I have had Fords that would not run if a windshield wiper blade wore down or it rained the night before. Actually, a Fords were the most enraging vehicles I've ever had to work on. Acquiring a part for one is a frustrating endeavor, as the manufacturer would often switch the design of random parts mid-year...so an 89 tempo may have up to 3 different types of, well..any certain part your looking for. Also, their are more acronyms for Ford than any other manufacturer...FORD--- Found On Roadside Dead...Fix Or Repair Daily, F&*#$# Over Rebuild Dodg..etc.
So, in short, any non-Ford lover describes the best way to fix a Ford, especially a Ford pickup, is to toss a grenade under the hood then call the scrap yard.
